1 Click DVD Copy is an excellent piece of software that allows you to easily copy all of your favourite DVDs. It narrowly missed out on our number one spot for only the smallest of reasons and so is well worth a look if you are interested in backing up your DVD collection. Read on to find out why 1 Click DVD Copy deserves the number two position in our top ten list.
1 Click DVD Copy does as the name might suggest and allows you to easily make copies of your DVDs with just one click of the mouse. The software detects all the necessary settings and the format of the DVD when you put one in the drive of your computer. It's then simply a matter of clicking the 'start' button and you will have a copy of your DVD waiting for you in a few minutes. It is also possible to change the settings for the copying process yourself, but most people will probably never need to bother with them.
Although once set up the process is as simple as that, we should point out the one small niggle that kept 1 Click DVD Copy off the top spot. In order to copy most movies you will need to download and install a third party piece of software to decrypt the DVD as it is copied. The software is free and 1 Click DVD Copy provides instructions on where to get it, but they could not include it with the application due to copyright laws. DVD copying is still a slightly grey area of the law and so many applications like this require you to download a third party tool to handle the decryption. Without the tool you will still be able to copy homemade DVDs and some commercial movies, but you will need it to get the most out of the application.
Once you have the application running there are plenty of options for copying. One of the most useful is that you can copy a movie that has been recorded onto a dual layer disc onto a single layer disc. Most movies these days come on dual layer discs, but most people won't have a dual layer burner so this is a very handy feature - and one that the software handles all by itself. You can also choose whether to include the extras or just the movie when copying.
The user interface 1 Click DVD Copy provides you with is simple and easy to use. Once everything is set up it is simply a case of inserting a DVD and clicking 'start' on the screen. All the windows in the interface display as DVD discs which looks very good, but doesn't really add any extra functionality. Still it makes a nice change from the standard grey boring Windows display. The extra settings for expert users are kept hidden away for the most part, but are easily found if you need them, which is helpful for novice computer users. There is also a handy option to shut down your computer when the copying is finished so you can wander off and not worry about it.
So to sum up, the main reason that 1 Click DVD Copy did not get the top spot was that it does not decrypt DVDs without the help of a third party tool. However, this is the case with many DVD copying applications so shouldn't cause much of a problem. In all other aspects 1 Click DVD Copy is as good as the product in our number one spot and should be one you consider if you are looking for a DVD copying solution.
