Roxio DVD Copy is a fully featured and easy to use DVD copying and creation tool. It can't copy protected discs, but offers a lot of useful features if you want to go about creating your own discs or copying unprotected DVDs.
Roxio is a well known and respected software house who produce easy to use applications aimed at novice computer users. Roxio DVD Copy is no exception and is certainly one of the more user friendly applications that we have reviewed. Unfortunately the software can't copy protected DVDs by itself, but if you were to download a third party decrypter tool it should be possible. It is likely Roxio can't include this with their software for legal reasons.
Roxio DVD Copy does as the name might suggest and allows you to copy any unprotected DVD. The process is very easy and there are the usual options available, such as compressing a dual layer disc to a single layer backup, straight disc to disc copying and there is even support for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs. On top of these standard features Roxio DVD Copy also allows you to convert DVD movies into formats that will be playable on portable devices like the iPod or Zune.
If this wasn't enough, Roxio goes one step further and allows you to author your own DVD menus to include on your backup discs. There are a number of pre-defined templates or you can create your own from scratch. Combined with the included label designer tool, this gives you the ability to make some very professional looking DVDs - all very easily and with the minimum of technical knowledge required.
The user interface reflects the user friendliness Roxio is known for and makes it really easy even for novices to make quality DVD backups. The settings are all explained clearly, there is a help file included and you can get lots of previews of videos before you decide to include them in your backup or not.
Roxio DVD Copy is an excellent choice of application for anyone who wants to create their own DVDs from scratch or copy unprotected DVDs. It should be possible to copy protected DVDs with a third party add on, but this won't be supported by Roxio so if that's what you want to do you may be better off having a look at some of the products in our top ten. Otherwise, you won't find a much more user friendly and fully featured tool than this.
