Extra DVD Copy is a decent quality DVD copying application available at a reasonable price. It lacks a few of the features some of the bigger name applications have, but should still do everything you need to make good quality backups of your DVD movie collection.
Extra DVD Copy provides all the usual functionality you might expect from a DVD copying tool. You can make straight disc to disc copies, condense a dual layer disc to a single layer disc or backup a movie straight to your hard drive. It is easy to select whether you want to copy just the movie or to include all the extra bonus features and language tracks too. Depending on how much you try to fit on a disc you might lose some quality, but it wasn't very noticeable on our standard TV.
The software works to remove region coding and most types of copy protection so that you can make copies of commercial DVD movies. When you purchase a license key you get access to free updates so that if a new copy protection method makes an appearance the software can be updated to cope with it. The Extra website also has a good support section to answer any questions you might have about the software and it also contains some useful tutorials to get you started.
Extra DVD Copy has a well designed user interface, which strangely looks very much like Windows Media Player. Despite the similarities the interface serves you well in backing up DVDs rather than playing back music and video so that even complete novices should manage a decent quality copy in no time. The software is also part of a suite of programs (which you must buy in addition to this one), that help you convert DVD movies to different formats compatible with devices like the iPod and Zune. If this is something you want to do, bundle discounts are available if you buy a number of the products together.
In all Extra DVD Copy is a fairly well designed and developed application. It would perhaps benefit from a few extra customization features, but other than that it will do everything you require to backup your DVD collection. It's very easy to use and a trial version is available so why not give it a try today?
