Plato DVD Copy is a well developed and supported DVD copying application, but lets itself down with some pretty bad English translation. While the software actually works quite well, the web site and support section contain a lot of spelling and grammar errors which make the company look slightly unprofessional.
Plato DVD Copy provides all the functionality required to make good quality copies of your DVD collection. The software allows you to copy straight from disc to disc or backup a movie to your hard drive. When copying you have the choice to keep the extra bonus features and language tracks or just to include the ones you need. You can also compress a dual layer DVD movie onto a single layer backup disc without losing very much quality. It would be handy to have a few more options regarding which features to include - particularly useful for episodic copying - but if you just want to make straightforward copies then you won't have any problems.
The backups you make will be region free and will have their copy protection removed by the software. It has a built in decrypter which handles most common types of copy protection with no problems. The lifetime of free upgrades and support should mean that any new types of copy protection will be taken care of in future releases too. Plato DVD Copy had no trouble with our test DVDs and copied them pretty quickly (or 'fastly' as the website likes to say).
The user interface Plato DVD Copy provides you with is fairly standard. It is simple to use and provides you with a one click copying option if you don't want to bother with any other settings. If you do want to bother it's easy enough to mess around and set your desired input and output settings. Our only gripe is that some of the English isn't perfect, and although it is understandable there are some errors which will make you chuckle from time to time.
In all Plato DVD Copy isn't too bad an application if you can look past the dodgy English. It made good backups and that's the main thing in a DVD copying application. However, for the price there are certainly a few other products to take into consideration as well, and you can see some of those in our top ten section.
