Xilisoft DVD Copy Express is a quick and easy DVD copying tool with enough features to make decent quality copies of your DVD movie collection. It doesn't have the number of features some of the more well known applications boast, but provides you with enough to make straightforward copies with the minimum of fuss.
The main function of Xilisoft DVD Copy Express is to make quick disc to disc copies of DVD movies and for this purpose it works pretty well. You can choose to include all the extra features and audio tracks or to leave them out so that there is more space to store a higher quality copy of just the movie. The software can also automatically compress a dual layer disc onto a single layer backup disc, which is useful if you don't have a dual layer burner. Aside from that you can also backup the movie onto your hard drive to be burned at another time.
Xilisoft DVD Copy Express has a built in decrypter so all the backups you make will be region free and copy protection free. The decrypter worked well in our tests and we managed to make some good quality copies which worked in a standard DVD player. If you want to be able to play your movies on a portable player Xilisoft also produces software which will help you convert the video to formats compatible with devices like the iPod and Zune.
Xilisoft DVD Copy Express provides a pretty nice looking user interface that's also very easy to use. You select the source, the target and press copy and go and have a coffee while the software does the rest - not quite one click copying but good enough that even novice computer users won't be baffled by it.
You won't go far wrong with Xilisoft DVD Copy Express if you just want to make a few basic backups of your DVD collection, but for anything more you might want to consider an application with a few more features. There are plenty to choose from in our top ten which are around about the same price as this so it pays to shop around a bit before buying.
